CrownTMS wants to make the organization and the flow of documents during freight delivery as easy as possible and efficient for their logistic clients. Therefore, it is crucial to have an app that offers high-quality document scans that can be easily created by drivers, even by non-tech-savvy users.

Requirements

CrownTMS required a React Native/ Expo compatible high-quality scanning solution without getting into native modules and modification to avoid complex and time-consuming configurations. The quality of the scanned document was of utmost importance and to make sure that even under difficult environmental circumstances there are no blurry areas in the scans taken by the truck drivers. Also, the consistent quality of scans and imports was important, meaning that also with different and low-end devices, the scan output is always clear. Moreover, the requirements were that the solution uses the phone camera and that it was intuitive to upload or import own pictures to combine them in one PDF document. A “nice to have” was to use a solution that offers offline functionality as especially in the US mobile coverage can be very bad in certain areas.

Solution

Thanks to the integration of the Docutain Scanner SDK, the quality of scans was greatly improved, and drivers do not have to redo the scans several times anymore, thus saving valuable time for all people involved (dispatcher, receiving end who attaches documents to an order…) in the process. The drivers now can scan directly from the TruckDash app without opening any other 3rd party app to scan and upload the file, which is a user-friendly process improvement and process alleviation as the interface of the scanning is also very straight-forward and user-guidance support the scan process along the way.

How TruckDash app reduced scan quality complaints to 0% with the Docutain SDK

Before implementing the Docutain SDK, CrownTMS tried a free plugin solution, but the results were mostly blurry and not all details were easily readable, which led to drivers redoing their scans multiple times. This constant redo of scans wasted time and was unsatisfactory for all parties involved. During their search for a suitable cross-platform document scanner, they found the Docutain SDK as perfect solution for their specific needs.

What has changed since the integration of Docutain SDK?

After implementing the Docutain Scanner SDK, there is a unified way of managing the documents from drivers. These range from bills of lading (BOLs), proofs of delivery (PODs), receipts for fuel, repairs, spare parts, truck washing to driver licenses and other documents.

Before the integration, every company had different instructions for drivers on how to deliver the transportation documents, so many of them used 3rd party apps, which meant that drivers had to work with multiple tools (third party scanner app, their email app to send the document and the TMS TruckDash). The individual companies using the TruckDash TMS had to instruct their drivers on the processes and the tools involved to scan and send documents to the back office.

Within the app, drivers scan all relevant documents in seconds and send them to the recipient in charge.
